The communities they come from are decidedly impoverished. Many of them are involved in farming, but this is tough. The landscape has creeping dunes, harsh winds, searing summer temperatures and devastating droughts. Water scarcity is a serious problem in the region. They do not have piped water facility and daily they have to fetch water 20 km far from their villages. They also suffer regular power cut. The literacy rate and the healthcare facilities are also very poor in the region. So we Gateway Jaisalmer took the initiative by giving them helping hand by providing them with regular employment, paying them fair wages and hence we are supporting their entire families so that they can get regular source of income and their children can attend school and get education.
